Yard Debris
UPDATE 11/8/24
Since pick up began on Monday, Oct. 14, the City of Eustis and collection partners have picked up has collected 997 truckload of debris equaling approximately 4,985 tons.
After Hurricane Milton, Lake County estimated that 250,000 cubic yards of debris remained across the county. For reference, the average garbage truck can hold about 30 cubic yards, which lead to the collaborative efforts around the community to streamline the clean up process as much as possible.
The City of Eustis estimates a timeline of 4-6 weeks to complete pick up.
UPDATE - 10/28/24
The City of Eustis has partnered with an additional contractor to further speed up the storm clean up process. Residents may see the City of Eustis, Waste Management, or Tip Top Tree Service in their neighborhood, picking up debris.
As a reminder, debris placed in bags will be collected as part of the regular Waste Management service cycle.
Residents are asked to refrain from adding additional bulk items to piles, as ONLY yard debris can be picked up at this time.
***
The City will be assisting Waste Management with collecting debris. Waste Management will collect some bagged or binned yard debris during each regular collection. Citizens are reminded that Waste Management cannot pick up all of the additional debris bags in one day on residential routes. Public Works will collect larger limbs and piles of debris. The City has been set up in a grid pattern, beginning downtown and spreading to more outlying areas. Once the full city has been serviced, Public Works will begin the cycle again for a second round of pick-up. It may take several weeks for all yard debris to be collected.
To ensure a quicker collection, prepare curbside debris by:
- Gathering debris (branches, limbs, trees, etc.) separately from household garbage and recycling.
- Ensure that the piles are on the curb and are being kept off streets, sidewalks, and storm drains. Safely position piles away from parked cars, mailboxes, powerlines, storm drains, or other structures.
- Try and combine your piles with your neighbor's to create larger piles.
Garbage Pick Up
At this time, Waste Management is running their regular pick up schedule for household waste.
